Stress Relief Secrets of Alexander Technique
Do you suffer from stress and tension in your neck, shoulders and back? Do you have general aches and pains? If so you may benefit from Alexander Technique.
Alexander Technique was devised by Frederick Matthias Alexander, an Australian actor, more than a 100 years ago.
Alexander began to suffer problems when trying to speak on stage. His throat would tighten up and he’d be unable to speak (quite a disadvantage for an actor!)
Instead of just giving up on his love of performing on stage, he started to wonder why his throat constricted, and he began to observe himself in strategically placed mirrors from different angles.
He discovered that his head would tip backward when he began to speak, causing his throat to constrict and he’d be unable to say a word.
This led him to experiment with different exercises to prevent these movements. After 10 years of study he achieved his initial aim of restoring his voice whilst on stage and, in the process, he’d developed what’s known today as Alexander Technique.
Alexander Technique is not really a stress relief treatment or therapy, but it’s more a re-education of the way we use and move our bodies.
You’ve heard of “muscle memory”? Well stress and anxiety can be held in the muscles like a memory also, causing physical pain, bad posture and even disease.
Alexander realised that the head-neck-body alignment determined the quality of functioning of the whole body.
Watch a small child at play and you’ll see that they have perfect posture. They run around without getting out of breath and hardly ever sit down.
But once they start going to school, and spend hours hunched over desks, this starts to change.
By the time we reach adulthood we often have stress, anxiety, aches and pains locked-up in our muscles and joints.
Alexander Technique provides a way to unlock these aches and pains.
If you want relief from stress and anxiety, to improve your body function and co-ordination discover the method used all over the world by stage performers, athletes and thousands of men and women to improve posture, relieve tension and boost athletic performance.
